Deep Imagination Mushroom Circle

  • Hedgerow Herb Co. 811 East Burnside Street Portland, OR, 97214 United States (map)

This Circle is a ritual space to journey with the wildness of the soul-based teachings that arise from fungi. Fungi resonate deep in our psyches as archetypal inhabitants of dual worlds: realms above and below; seen and unseen; death and rebirth. Fungi are sacred ancestors and guides of soul cycles between heaven, earth, and the underworld. They can orient us in our soul’s journey through transformation and connection.

We will explore how fungi are essential to the resilience of earth's ecosystems and human wellness. We will also commune with fungi in ritual practices and invitations. We look to fungi to help us bridge the worlds of the known and the unknown. Spiritual wholeness is ecological. Together, we will meander along the mycelial path to connect the hyphae and re-awaken ancestral knowledge of times and lans in which humans looked to fungi for myth, magic, and medicine.

Items to bring:
+ pen, journal
+ water bottle, snack
+ offerings for the altar like dried flowers or mushrooms (noninvasive), tobacco, sacred items, etc.
+ a small blanket, cushion, or mat to sit on (we will be invited to lie down on the floor, be prepared to be comfy!)

ABOUT GABRIELA

Gabriela D’Elia grew up in the arms of the Rocky Mountains, fell in love with fungi in the Pacific Northwest, and since 2022 has made home in the hills of the sky – the “Catskills”. Gabriela writes, teaches, and creates threads intended to connect us with ecological soulfulness, with a particular devotion to the wisdom of fungi. She has considered the earth family since a young age and has been a "mushroom person" since 2012.

Gabriela served as Executive Director for Fungal Diversity Survey (fundis.org), North America’s nonprofit for fungal conservation, for over 3 years, for which she is now a board member. Through her fungal advocacy work she has built the first state-wide government funded fungal diversity project (“CA FUNDIS”) and initiated the successful campaign to designate Porcini (Boletus edulis) as Utah’s state mushroom. Gabriela guides activities like Deep Imagination Mushroom Walks and Circles, “regular” mushroom walks, mycodiversity surveys, and weekend mushroom retreats with Catskill Fungi.

She is oriented by the wild beings she shares home with, as well as myth, ceremony, dreams, ancestors, and the sacred roundedness that connects birth and death. Learn more about her offerings at gabrieladelia.com and connect with her writing and newsletter at gabrieladelia.substack.com
